What is the difference between remanufactured and refilled?  Remanufactured cartridges are previously used cartridges that have been inspected for any problems.  Moving parts such as rollers and drums are inspected, cleaned, and if necessary, replaced.  Some toner cartridges include chips that tell the printer it is a new cartridge.  Remanufactured cartridges have a new chip installed, so that the printer recognizes is just as it would a brand new OEM cartridge.  These cartridges are then tested for print quality before being sold.

Refilled cartridges are just as they sound.  They are still previously used cartridges, however they have been refilled with new ink.  Basically this involves drilling a small hole into the cartridge and refilling it with ink.  Most of the time, this process is referred to as “drill & fill.”  The main problem with this process is that the small plastic shavings from drilling can drop into the toner chamber, which can in turn, cause damage to the toner cartridge, and sometimes even your printer.  These holes can occasionally leak as well, causing problems also.  When this is done, nothing is inspected, replaced, or even cleaned, resulting in a less-reliable cartridge that has not undergone the same quality control process.

Remanufactured cartridges are often much less expensive than OEM cartridges, while still meeting the quality of OEM cartridges.  With these cartridges, you can rest assured knowing that the re-used portion of the cartridges has been cleaned, inspected, and replaced, and that their quality will meet or exceed that of the OEM counterparts.

Keep in mind, no remanufactured cartridge will ever void the warranty on any machines.
